Three Russian football fans have been jailed for their part in the violence in the lead up to last Saturday’s Euro 2016 game between England and Russia.

A French court sentenced Alexei Erunov, Sergei Gorbachev and Nikolai Morozov to two years, 18 months and 12 months, respectively.

It has also been announced that 20 Russian men are to be deported from France next week for their role in the violence that took place in the first week of Euro 2016.

Some England fans have started petitions to stop Russia hosting the new World Cup, following the weekend clashes.

Writing on his Change.org petition, Ross Germany, from Wellingborough, said:

‘In light of the events within the last 3 days of Russian football fans attacking innocent Englishman in Marseille with no reason what so ever, I propose that Russia should be stripped of their World Cup 2018 hosting duties and the World Cup to be played within many other countries.’

The petition has been signed by more than 29,000 people, with another 23,000 people supporting this campaign to strip Russia of the 2018 World Cup.

UEFA has charged the Russia Football Union with three counts of crowd disturbances, the setting off of fireworks and racist behaviour, and will judge the case on Tuesday – one day before Russia take on Slovakia in Lille.
