HEALTH: Junior nurse renews calls for support following government announcement to scrap student bursaries

Junior nurse Danielle vows not to stop her fight despite the government’s decision to scrap bursaries for student nurses and midwives, last night.

Danielle Tiplady, 29, who started a petition on Change.org is in her final year at King’s College university and does placements at St Mary’s Hospital in London.

She told how a bursary was her “lifeline” and the only way she would have made it through her training.

“Lifeline: Danielle’s campaign aimed to reverse the government decision so others can benefit from a bursary as she did

More than 104,000 people have put their name to her petition so far.

The Government has said that replacing bursaries with loans will free up around £800 million a year, create extra nursing posts by 2020 and help students from all backgrounds take up the role.

In a message to her supporters, Danielle who lives in London said: This is devastating and poses a huge risk to the future of the NHS. Please share my petition far and wide”.
