I’m 19 years old and this will be the first General Election I’ve ever voted in. And I’m writing to tell you how I realised that every voice in this country is powerful and can create change.

For a year and a half I have been campaigning for the Yazidi women and girls sexually assaulted at the hands of ISIS. Before I started my petition the voices of the Yazidi community were rarely heard in the UK – but then thousands of people like you added their name to my petition, and that helped tell the Yazidi people’s story in Britain.

This campaign has made me see that together our voices are powerful and when we add enough of them together it makes a difference. So I’m writing to you to let you know that this Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the general election. That means that if you’re not registered by then, you won’t be able to vote.

Working on my campaign has made me realise why the people we vote for matter. I’ve needed good MP’s around me to get my campaign this far – politicians that listen and have fought my corner.

A few years ago I wouldn’t have believed that my voice could make a difference. But since I’ve been speaking out, I’ve realised how powerful each one of us is.
