Chancellor George Osborne is facing pressure from campaigners who claim he has “gone quiet” on his pledge to axe the tax on women’s sanitary products.

Laura Coryton who started a petition on Change.org and led a two-year campaign which won earlier this year says she is still waiting to see progress on the issue.

Mr Osborne pledged to scrap the tax in March after the European Commission changed tax rules allowing individual countries to lower the tax on sanitary products for women.

But two months on, nothing has changed.

Laura Coryton led a demonstration from Parliament ending with a rally outside Downing Street.

Supporters attending Saturday’s event (May 21) included, US tampon tax campaigner, Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, Megan Mukuria, founder of charity ZanaAfrica which supports young girls in Kenya, and Manjit K. Gill, founder of Binti International, a charity that works to provide women with sanitary products in the UK, India and East Africa.

Laura said: “Osborne made a pledge two months ago but he still hasn’t implemented an axe of tampon tax. We have been given no dates and no sign of his intention to scrap it.

“Together we are a powerful force. Our combined efforts have already rallied major political figures including President Obama and David Cameron to speak out. 

“In the UK we have changed EU law in a way never seen in it’s history. We will force Osborne to finally end tampon tax, once and for all.
