SPORT: England Fans Call for Russia to Lose World Cup in 2018

Worried football fans are petitioning to stop Russia hosting the new World Cup, following clashes between Russia and England fans over the weekend.

Writing on his Change.org petition, Ross Germany, from Wellingborough, said:

“In light of the events within the last 3 days of Russian football fans attacking innocent Englishman in Marseille with no reason what so ever, I propose that Russia should be stripped of their World Cup 2018 hosting duties and the World Cup to be played within many other countries.”

Clashes: Some Russia supporters had smuggled in flares which they set off at the end of the match

The petition has been signed by over 11,000 people in the last 48 hours, with another 17,000 people supporting this campaign to strip Russia of the 2018 World Cup.

UEFA has charged the Russia Football Union with three counts of crowd disturbances, the setting off of fireworks and racist behaviour, and will judge the case on Tuesday – one day before Russia take on Slovakia in Lille.

UEFA has also warned fans of Russia and England that further bad behaviour could lead to both sides being thrown out of the European Championships.
