HUMAN RIGHTS: Dad holds picnic with supporters and sings Happy Birthday to daughter stranded in Iran where his wife is jailed

Estranged dad, Richard Ratcliffe who has been separated from his daughter Gabriella for over two months sang Happy Birthday to her via Skype at a teddy bear’s picnic.

Richard’s wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian national – has been held in Iran without charge since April 3.

She was separated from Gabriella after being stopped at Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran as they tried to return to the UK from a family holiday.

The toddler who is being looked after by her grandparents had her British passport confiscated by the Iranian authorities and Nazanin is being detained 621 miles (1,000km) from her in Kerman Prison.

On Friday (June 10), Richard was joined by friends, family and his MP Tulip Siddiq, to hold a birthday picnic in Hyde Park to celebrate Gabriella’s birthday.

Speaking outside the Embassy, Richard told Change.org: ‘ Some of the 750,000 people who signed the petition on Change.org came to celebrate with us as well as friends and family and our MP Tulip Siddiq.’

Richard also tried to deliver a birthday card to the Embassy for Gabriella but the Iranian authorities refused to accept it so it was left on the doorstep with some balloons.

The Embassy has confirmed it has received birthday cards addressed to Gabriella from supporters of Richard’s campaign in recent weeks.

He added: ‘We tried to deliver a birthday card for Gabriella but the Iranian authorities wouldn’t accept it so we left it on the doorstep. I miss her very much and more than anything else I would like for us all to be back together as a family.

‘We also sang her Happy Birthday via Skype, and we sang If You’re Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands. She loved that and was happy and smiling. I still miss her and more than anything I would like for us all to be together as a family. That will be the best present for a two-year-old and for myself.’
